like ok, ansem was a very compelling villain in kh but as soon as kh2 rolls around and retcons his whole deal he’s just left with “darkness darkness darkness” which isn’t interesting. xehanort is great in bbs but from stealing terra’s body on it’s super unclear as to how much he (and his derivative characters) remember and/or care about his original plan. maleficent is super well acted and has some great interactions but it’s literally never clear what exactly she wants – like, a castle or dominion of some kind but she keeps changing her mind about which one and they don’t really go into why she wants that. the non-xehanort parts of the organization have interesting moments but mostly get very little development and are hamstrung by the fact that the organization’s motive as a whole is completely vague outside of “we want kingdom hearts”. then we’re left with pete, who has a pretty clear and understandable character arc from greedy and sees other people as potential means to an end > vulnerable and powerless > indebted to maleficent > genuinely respectful of maleficent’s power. he wants to win an icecream and later assist maleficent however he can and it’s clear why he wants those things and what he’s doing to achieve them. I fucking hate pete and i would never say he’s the best villain but as far as clear and compelling motvations? he’s got em
“Because of our theatre backgrounds, we approached the characters in the same way. At that time, everything was “method” in terms of the sincerity with which you’d look at your character. We were both marrying a clownish-type theatricality with this sincere take. We tried to find the distinctions between them. There’s more of a floppiness to Ted, whereas Bill is making more of a concerted effort to attack the world – but he’s failing completely. It might’ve been why Keanu and I clicked on camera. Often the other actors auditioning would be lampooning Bill and Ted; we were genuinely trying to be in their heads.”
– Alex Winter, Bill S. Preston Esquire. I love this observation. There is more of a floppiness to Ted.
Particularly if you live in Texas, please vote, just for the schadenfreude. Can you even imagine if Texas goes blue. Can you even imagine Ted Cruz losing. I’m getting giddy just thinking about the conservative meltdown. There is literally zero path to the Presidency for Republicans that doesn’t include Texas. If they have to sweat bullets for the next forever thinking that Texas might be a left-leaning state… guys, this just sounds like a fun time.
Vote for Beto for the schadenfreude.
Hey guys remember how in 2016 Texas actually turned blue for a hot second? Let’s make that happen but more permanently this time.
