Botany and Cool Shit: Pleurothallis truncata

These rebellious young whipper-snapper-damn-“Millenials” are most definitely orchids. Don’t worry though, even though their racemes make them look like a back-talking pierced-tongue millenials, they aren’t capable of destroying any of our hard-won industries, primarily because they are “orchids” according to what Rush Limbaugh and Tomi Lahren said this morning, and are not, infact, millennials

I however am still skeptical. Just look at them! With so many tongue piercings, I can’t fathom how they could be anything BUT millennials. They could be the very death of our Fabric Softener Industry. Just think of how the Diamond-encrusted Gold Watch Industry would suffer if all of the piercings are on their tongues! These millennials just obviously don’t know how to spend their money properly.

(Not my images, darlings. For these and other lovely orchids, check out Ruben Senes’s Flikr, here )

P.S. These are not actually images of millennials. Please note that these are plants and therefore have no money to spend improperly.

bold of you to assume millennials have money

If society collapses and we gotta start living back in tiny tribal societies everybody’s gotta make sure when you start making those stories that get passed down through the ages that you include some ghibli movies in there. I want future archeologists to find multiple societies around the world worshiping chihiro the dragon rider goddess and howl the trickster god. We got one chance if it happens so don’t fuck it up

I can’t tell if we’re handling the collapse of society well or not anymore

I like how we gen z kids, all of us that grew up with the world imploding around us since were were very little have started to just decide to make things that make us happy! We talk make memes about how much we love our friends and we like to watch pretty videos on Instagram and we have things like cottagecore and lovecore and we all want to save the bees and stuff and it just makes me really happy that we are trying to not let the world absolutely ruin us. We need to hold on to that. Hold onto your wax seals and watercolor paintings ok hold them close to your heart and dont ever let the world make you think that you have no right to be happy

it’s because reality is terrifying and our world’s dying, and our developmental years were spent in a constant state of using increasingly nonsensical humor to cope

It’s called the rise of neo-dadaism and the same thing happened during WWII

well that’s not concerning At All

time out hold up sweetheart let’s get it together before you wanna spread  art historical misinformation

@biggest-gaudiest-patronuses has a spot on summary of the dada ideology; these artists reacted to the horrors and atrocities of WWI by embracing nonsense in a world that no longer seemed to make sense

but the period we’re in right now is decidedly not neo-dada! you know why? because neo-dada already happened, and not during WWII but during the 60s and 70s, through artists like robert rauschenberg, yves klein, yoko ono, and nam june paik.

what was going on in the 60s and 70s that might involve “terrifying” reality and “increasingly nonsensical” coping methods? the cold war! now the cold war is in much more recent memory,

but if you wanna talk about nonsensical coping methods among millennials? i would say “lol xD so random” culture is probably the best starting point, which is definitely post-cold war (knowyourmeme is giving me 2004 as a good benchmark date).

2004 is only three years after 2001 so this resurgence of dada thinking could easily be seen as initially a reaction to 9/11, and we can then trace the antics of the bush administration, the shift of the overton window, the rise of internet culture, the 2016 election, and the current political moment as developmental factors behind this current dada moment.

so since neo-dada already happened and this is definitely its own thing with its own factors, and since a big part of our dada is the influence of the internet on modernity, i posit that we start calling this e-dada or #dada

tl;dr: neo-dada is already taken, it happened in the 60s/70s, we’re doing our own kind of dada now

e-dada

I still say that millenihilism is the best term
