Anon submission: In the last two years, I remembered a warning my mother gave me when I was about 16. She pulled me aside very suddenly one day and told me “I want to tell you something. No matter what, you have to remember: you are always a Jew before you are an American.”At the time, I was fairly proud of being an American. And I asked her why? My mother got tears in her eyes and told me “if something ever happens here, being a good American won’t be enough to save you.”
