“i don’t like either candidate so i won’t vote” what are you thinking, if enough people wuss out we’re going to have President None Of The Above? hey we’re counting the votes and ten percent of voters stayed home and jerked it to their own ideological purity, guess we just won’t have a president and all the executive level decisions will be made by a magic 8-ball for the next 4 years

i wrote this 2 years ago and – yeah. look, let’s just learn, ok? midterms coming up, pull up your big citizen pants and go do the thing.

I watched this special with Chris Hayes where he went to Michigan, where 90k people “voted” but left the box for president empty. And I could not wrap my head around it. Some white boy sitting on a stool like “well maybe you would vote if everything was going okay for you, but I need change”. And I exploded. Its the height of privilege to abdicate that kind of responsibility under the faux guise of protest. No, its not because everything is going great, but because everything could be going MUCH WORSE. And i, as a queer woman, don’t want my rights ripped away and shat on. Im sorry that you’re just starting to feel the effects of wage stagnation that’s fucked the rest of us for over 40 years, and im sorry that you dont think a few trade deals turned out great for white people, but that is THE SHITTIEST REASON to throw women, black and brown people, the queers, and immigrants under the goddamn bus. You can always fight within your party for more progress, or to move things to the left. And honestly if it took this orange disaster for you to finally give a fuck, for you to realize you cant just vote once a year and act like your part is done, that should be a point of shame, not one of pride.

The second argument, equally blew me away. “I wasn’t going to vote for the lesser of two evils”. EXCUSE ME?!?! Please tell me what’s so evil about the following:

  • Raising the minimum wage
  • Repealing the Hyde Amendment (which bans federal funds, such as medicaid, from being used for abortion)
  • Tax relief for working families
  • forcing Wall Street and billionaires to pay their share
  • relief from student debt
  • deb-free college
  • ending campus sexual assault
  • paid family and medical leave
  • expanding voter rights by: automatically registering voters, repairing the Voting Rights Act, setting a national standard for early voting, restoring voting rights to convicted felons
  • ending conversion therapy
  • passing the Equality Act “to protect people from discrimination on the basis of gender identity and sexual orientation in every aspect of public life”
  • Protecting and expanding the Affordable Care Act

And if you don’t believe me read Hillary Clinton’s 2016 Platform for yourself.

Maybe you don’t think she was “progressive enough” but look what you got in exchange: Muslim Ban, nazis in the street, thousands of immigrant children being ripped from their families, thousands of refugees turned away, and possibly 2 conservative supreme court judges that will change the face of America as you know it.

NOT VOTING IS NOT PROTEST, ITS LETTING SOMEONE ELSE DECIDE OUR FUTURE. And honestly, the rest of us can’t afford your moral purity.

yall hear about fucking hb2796

NO I’M FUCKING SERIOUS HAVE Y’ALL HEARD ABOUT FUCKING HB2796 WHICH LITERALLY FUCKING EXCLUDES TRANS PEOPLE FROM CIVIL RIGHTS LEGISLATION

I’m going to keep fucking reblogging this

No Federal civil rights law shall be interpreted to treat gender identity or transgender status as a protected class, unless such law expressly designates “gender identity” or “transgender status” as a protected class.

@yall I see ignoring this please dont. I get it its upseting, but this is IMPORTANT information that could SAVE our lives and our rights.

Also this boils down to stripping rights away from intersex and trans ppl from what I understand, meaning that we would no longer be protected under federal law. This is scary. Call your reps and get this shut down as soon as you can. We can beat this together. We need each other right now. Share this, spread this information.

how you can help:

call your local senator and representatives! websites like 5calls tell you your national representatives based on your location and if you use their mobile site, you can call those representatives through their site. they don’t yet have hb2796 on their site, but you can use their system regardless!

here is an example of something you can say: “My name is (your name) and I am a constituent in (your town/city/district).  I strongly oppose house bill 2796, which aims to remove gender identity protections from civil rights legislation by forcibly clarifying “gender” or “sex” to indicate only a person’s assigned gender at birth. Transgender people require civil rights protections as a vulnerable part of our population, and it is extremely important to me that they receive those protections. Thank you for your time and attention.”

IF YOU LEAVE A VOICEMAIL: leave your street address to ensure your call is tallied!

when you call, they will not argue with you, and basically just tally how many people contact them on a certain issue. also, if you want to support other issues on the 5calls site, don’t be afraid to make multiple separate calls! call volume matters and if you call more separate times it will be better.

Dammit I hate to use this blog for this but- from one trans guy to yall- this is important!

It looks like this bill isn’t getting fast tracked and is actually going through the entire legislative process so keep at it!

This is important. Calling all witches! contact your representatives and then get out those spell ingredients!

Today is August 25th, 2018.

HB 2796 is still in this stage:

It has not passed the House. Keep it up, folks. Eliminate this monstrosity.

Above is still true as of 10 September 2018. Contact your representatives, and vote in November for people who will kill this resolution.

REPOST @TinySnekComics – you know what’s cool?  VOTING THIS NOVEMBER!!! if you retweet anything today, make it is!!

It’s very likely that American young people will determine who’s elected and who isn’t. And that’s equally true for those young people who, for whatever reason, fail to vote. If you don’t vote, in most cases you’re helping put Trump supporters into office. Please be sure that’s what you really want for our country before you stay home on voting day.

Hey y’all, I would love for this to be true but this is false information. https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/treason-impeachment-removal/

“More important is that the wording of Article II, Section 4 of the U.S. Constitution has been misrepresented here. It actually reads as follows:

“The President, Vice President and all civil Officers of the United States, shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors.”

This passage merely sets out that the process for removing a President, Vice President, or other high civil officer from government office is through their being impeached and convicted of crimes, including offenses such as treason or bribery.

Section 4 of Article II does not state — or mean — that if any President, Vice President, or other civil officer is impeached (with or without subsequent conviction), all such persons are also removed from office. The procedure for impeachment and potential removal from office would apply only to the persons specifically named in the articles of impeachment passed by the House.”

TLDR: that is a real excerpt from the constitution, but it’s being misinterpreted. It means that impeachment is the method necessary to remove any listed officer from their office; in other words, any of them can be impeached and removed, but only for their own specific offenses, and not those committed by others in office with or around them. impeachment of one does not affect the others.
