apparently controversial fucking opinion: some of us need closed captions/subtitles to understand what is being said in a video and don’t want to see fan transcribers demolishing captions with zalgo text or giving their own commentary/cracking stupid jokes when we turn those on

i promise your jokes/theories/fucking leet speek for some reason can stay in the comments and not in the captions where i have to keep rewatching the video to figure out if that’s actually being said or not

Once more, for those who weren’t aware yet:

  1. The subtitles on Rooster Teeth Youtube videos aren’t made by Rooster Teeth, they’re made by fans. That’s why they often have… I think they’re technically “jokes” in them. Those do not represent the intent of the original authors.

  2. These comments are also not funny. I mean, I guess that’s a matter of personal opinion, but come on, seriously, they’re not. But even leaving that aside:

  3. There are many people who actually do need subtitles, maybe because they have hearing issues, don’t speak english natively, are in a noisy environment or whatever. For us, these “jokes” are a very annoying distraction while we’re trying to understand the content we are actually here for.

  4. Please do not add such jokes to subtitles. Please do not encourage those who do. It’s literally making the video worse for many people in the fandom. And on the off-chance that you happen to be working for Rooster Teeth: Please start providing official subtitles on Youtube and most importantly your own site. If it costs too much then just cancel a podcast or two.

DBZ Abridged fans are doing it right: if you want to add funny commentary, add it to the English (Canadian) subtitle section and leave the regular English subs as actual subtitles, thanks.
